COFFEE TABLE LAYOUT—DALLAS, TX—2005—N SCALE

Our client, a professional hockey player, wanted a piece of fine furniture for his condo.  And he wanted it to contain a DCC N scale layout with street running, much industry and a waterfront scene.  The track plan was designed to accommodate two trains operating continuously while a third could be running switching maneuvers throughout the city and wharf area.  Detection and operating grade crossings were included as were building and street lights.  We designed the oak coffee table with the help of our cabinet maker.  It is strongly reminiscent of an arched viaduct look as you can see.  A ball bearing supported pull out shelf contains a small staging yard, programming track and an area to make up/exchange trains.  When pushed back in, the trackage aligns with the running track above.  A thick acrylic top normally covers the coffee table.

FRANKLIN RIDGE LINE—MERCER ISLAND, WA—2011—HO SCALE

The Franklin Ridge Line is a layout with a strong lumber and logging theme.  Finished to our Gold level of detail, there are many highly detailed mini scenes present.  You can see some of these details HERE.  This install was likely the most difficult we have encountered. Large pillars in the downstairs area blocked access to the stairway up to the train room.  So because that room had large removable patio doors and windows and opened onto a balcony, we decided to rent a crane to lift the layout in two pieces from the drive up and over the adjoining gardens and patio and onto the wall of the balcony where we then were able to move the pieces into the house.  For a small layout, the Franklin Ridge Line has fairly complex track design and required some ingenuity to get it all to fit.  Custom scratch built bridges were required. The sawmill contained interior detail. And the quaint little town needed to be built on a hill with the main street on two levels. Our client’s desire for a detailed logging scene and mill as well as a small turntable and engine house further complicated the design.

Nice…  But a bit tricky.

Cranes are cool!!  Out of the Truck…… and………...

A Nice Photo in the Studio but we forgot to align the bridge.
